NOT JUST A GAME – Countering Radicalisation through a Sports intervention
May 27, 2025
We are thrilled to share exciting updates on our Erasmus+ project “Not Just A Game: Countering Radicalisation through Sport”. This innovative initiative aims to prevent violent extremism and radicalization among young people through targeted sport interventions.
Our project partners include:
- Etudes et Chantiers (France) – Lead partner

- Latvian Olympic Federation Council (Latvia)
- Clubul Scolar Sportiv Targu Jiu(Romania)
- Europe for Youth (Poland)
- KERIC (Slovakia)
Since our project launch in October 2024, we’ve made significant strides. Our first partner meeting in Bastia, France laid a strong foundation for collaboration. We’ve since completed comprehensive field research across partner countries, surveying youth workers and sports coaches to understand the current landscape and challenges. Our research highlights key areas of focus, including early detection and prevention of radicalization, building resilience through grassroots sports, addressing online extremism and promoting digital literacy, fostering inclusive team environments with clear values, and developing communication techniques for sensitive topics.
Looking ahead, we’re preparing for our next partner meeting in Čadca, Slovakia on May 22nd, 2025. During this meeting, we want to synthesize our research findings and begin developing our training program which will equip youth workers and sports coaches with essential skills to prevent and counter radicalization through sports activities.
Our project is more than just research and training – it’s about creating safer, more inclusive communities through the power of sport. We invite you to join us on this important journey.
